June 2024

Dear Resident and/or Key Holder

Events in the Gardens and at the Beatrice Potter Globe

Please find here an updated table of up and coming private and open events in the Gardens.  Payment details and other personal data have been redacted.

Please also find here the Booking Form for you to use if you wish to request permission to hold a private event in the Gardens.

Due to the inclement weather in May and June, a number of private events were either cancelled or postponed until the weather improved.  At long last, this has happened.

“All’s Well That Ends Well” – Shakespeare in Cornwall Gardens, Tuesday 25 June 2024 – Curtain up at 7 pm

At the time of publication, there are a few tickets left for this event though they may well have been sold by the time you open the bulletin given the very recent upsurge in bookings due to the much improved weather.  If you find they have been sold out, please feel free to get in touch with the Secretary in case there have been some returns.  See here for more details and booking.

Entrance to the event will be via the middle gate of the Central Garden south side opposite 73/74 Cornwall Gardens.  Please feel free to bring your own picnic in the hour or so before the performance starts sharp at 7 pm. Mosimann’s will be providing a paid bar.

“A Night at the Musicals”, 26-29 June 2024 at the Beatrice Potter Globe

tlc/Earl’s Courtiers are staging “A Night at the Musicals”, perfect for all ages, at the Beatrice Potter Globe from 26 June to 29 June 2024 inclusive.  Please see flyer attached with more details and a QR code to book.  Use the discount code LoyalGarden at checkout to receive £5 off.  All proceeds go towards charity.  You can also book your tickets here.

“Some Enchanted Evening”, tlc/Earl’s Courtiers, Cornwall Gardens, Tuesday 2 July 2024 from 6.30 pm

If you would like to attend this event, please book your tickets via Eventbrite here on so that the organisers have an idea of numbers for catering and ensure they don’t exceed the permitted maximum.  Please book early as, once again, bookings have suddenly increased due to the onset of warmer weather.  There is no admission charge though any donations at the time of booking or for food and drink provided at the event will go to charity.

London Open Gardens Weekend, 8/9 June 2024

London Open Gardens Weekend saw a record 426 paying guests plus 16 children visit Cornwall Gardens on Saturday, 8 June 2024 to enjoy the light jazz trio from the Royal College of Music, catering by Jakobs and, of course, the majesty of the Gardens and their magnificent trees.  See picture below.

Our thanks go to Ian Murdoch and his Wife Alison, plus the volunteers from the London Gardens Trust, for making the event such a success.

Unveiling Ceremony of English Heritage Blue Plaque for Dame Iris Murdoch, Wednesday, 19 June 2024

Planned and organised over a lengthy period and with an embargo on publication, Annette Badland, Actress and Patron of the Iris Murdoch Society, unveiled a blue plaque in honour of Iris Murdoch – see picture attached.  Iris had resided and owned the Top Floor Flat at 29 Cornwall Gardens with her Husband, John Bayley, from 1972 until her death in 1999, having rented the Top Floor Flat at 62 Cornwall Gardens for a couple of years immediately prior.  English Heritage sent out a number of invitations to academics, writers and others with links to Iris and Cornwall Gardens residents were invited who could remember Iris and John or were linked in some way to them or Iris’s life and work.  The event was attended by over 100 people who also enjoyed a Reception in the Gardens hosted by Cornwall Gardens Residents Association on a beautiful Summer’s afternoon.

More details and pictures to follow in a future publication.

Best,

Alan Lester
