CORNWALL GARDENS BULLETIN - 26 OCTOBER 2023

Dear Resident and/or Key Holder

Cornwall Gardens Initiatives

The Cornwall Gardens Management Sub Committee and Residents Association are pursuing a number of initiatives further to improve the quality of life for residents of Cornwall Gardens. Cornwall Gardens appears to have held its own in terms of property sales, rentals, marketing and values and this needs to be maintained and built upon to secure improvements wherever possible. We are also keen that Cornwall Gardens should be a neighbourhood characterised by the courtesy and respect which residents show each other; and we will continue to seek to promote this by connecting the members of our community through friendly but efficient and, we hope, useful communications.

The detail of these initiatives is contained in the attached documents for information as follows:

  1. CGMSC and CGRA Minutes Meeting 20 Sep 2023

  2. Gardener's Report Sep 2023

  3. Plant List Sep 2023

  4. CGMSC and CGRA Minutes 10 May 2023

  5. Garden Rules Sep 2023

  6. Bye-Laws 1971

  7. Open letter to Principal Contacts for each Building for information. The letter will be personally addressed to each prospective Principal Contact who has expressed an interest.

  8. Garden Booking Form

  9. Queen's Gate Q3 Crime Stats

  10. Nine Histograms of Crime Stats

We hope you will find them interesting and helpful. Any feedback, as always, will be welcome as this helps shape policy for the future.

Updates to the Items Covered in Attachments 1 to 10 Above

Building Safety Act 2022

The Government is aware of the confusion concerning the measurement of the height of buildings to determine whether they need to be registered as higher risk buildings because of their size. Consequently, the date for the coming into force of the relevant provisions of the Building Safety Act 2022 has been put back from 1 October 2023 indefinitely whilst the issue is being clarified. From informal feedback from a small cross-section of building managers in Cornwall Gardens, most have decided not to register pending the outcome.

Garden Benches

Six more garden benches were ordered recently matching the existing newer benches. They’ve now been delivered and distributed across all three Gardens. They will gradually replace the old wooden benches or which have reached the point of being beyond economic repair or are unstable.

Website, Squarespace and Email

We continue to develop our website with the help and support of Ashley Brady on the Management Committee and also Francesca Gregson, a consultant who is also helping other garden square committees as well as Shakespeare in the Squares. More information will uploaded on to the website and bulletins disseminated via Squarespace as we move from analogue to digital in Cornwall Gardens. Bulletins will continue to be distributed by email until all residents are comfortable using the website and Squarespace.

Christmas Carol Concert - Weds 6 Dec, Central from 6pm to 7.30pm organised by the Earl’s Courtiers and tlc estate agents. Admission is free to key holders and members of their household. This includes a complimentary drink of mulled wine or blackcurrant cordial and a brownie on production of their garden key. This will take you to the admission form which you can then complete and return. This information will assist with calculating total numbers wishing to attend for licensing reasons and catering provision.

Toby Brown of the Earl’s Courtiers and tlc is also looking for performers to help lead the singing. Toby says:

“With the holiday season just around the corner, we're extending a heartfelt invitation to adults and children to join us for our Quintessential Carol Concerts! We would like you to help us spread the holiday cheer by singing at our Carol Concerts this winter, which will run throughout the month of December. It's a heart-warming experience we'd love you to be a part of! We’ll visit multiple garden squares around the borough, offering mulled wine, warm black currant, brownies and Christmas songs. Attendees will be encouraged to sing along, except for a few solo performances, which anyone is welcome to partake in. The events will start between 6 and 7:30 pm. Please find below the list of Carol Concerts. If you would like to become one of our soloists, you can contact me, letting us know which dates you would like to attend and which Christmas songs you or your child will be performing.
